Kelly Chibale, Ph.D., is our Senior Advisor for Synthetic Chemistry and Drug Discovery. He obtained his PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Cambridge in the UK in 1992. Postdoctoral fellowships followed at the University of Liverpool (UK) and at the Scripps Research Institute in the USA. Thereafter, Kelly was a Sandler Sabbatical Fellow at the University of California San Francisco, a US Fulbright Senior Research Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, and Visiting Professor at Pfizer in the UK. He became full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2007 and he holds a South Africa Research Chair in Drug Discovery. He is also Director of both the Medical Research Council Drug Discovery and Development Research Unit at UCT and UCT's Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3-D). Kelly's research is in the field of drug discovery, underpinned by medicinal chemistry.
